Lencan Pottery
The Lenca indians of Honduras have a unique style of pottery that is made of locally available materials and fired in traditional clay ovens. The designs of our pottery aren't all that traditional though. Acta de Honduras has put a unique spin on the traditional Lencan pottery by introducing a wide array of new shapes and patterns. Lencan pottery designs are made by covering up the areas that are to be color or white, so that the soot from the fire does not enter the pores of the clay.
Be careful to check the care instructions on our vases - you should be careful about putting water in Lencan pottery pieces, since it is not a very dense material and does not lend itself well to sealing. Be sure and line your vase with a plastic bag or a glass if you would like to fill it up with water to display fresh arrangements.
We are bringing you just a small sampling of Acta de Honduras's products. If you are interested in seeing other items made in the traditional Lenca method, please let us know.
